All you need to know about World Series in Lignano
Preparations are in full swing for the Lignano Sabbiadoro stage of the Paralympic Swimming Series, scheduled for next May 30th to June 2nd.
In the pool of Villaggio Bella Italia in Lignano, the world paralympic swimming champions will meet. Among the athletes who will battle the strong Raman Salei of Azerbaijan, while from Belarus will arrive Ihar Boki, Uladzimir Izotau, Dzimitry Salei, Yahor Shchalkanau, Hryhory Zudzilau and Anastasiya Zudzilava. There will also be Arnost Petracek with the large team from the Czech Republic, as well as the very strong spaniards Nuria Marques Soto, Antoni Ponce Bertran and Oscar Salguero Galisteo. Also the United Kingdom will be present with athletes of the caliber of Stephen Clegg, Eleanor Robinson and Alice Tai. Germany has a large group, including Gina Boettcher, Denise Grahl and Verena Schott. The same goes for the greek team that will arrive with Dimitrios Karypidis, Aristeidis Makrodimitris and Alexandra Stamatopoulou. Hungary should not be underestimated with Fanni Illes and Bianka Pap and Turkey with Sumeyye Boyaci and Sevilay Ozturk, while the return of Russian athletes is expected from everyone after two years of absence from the competitions.
And the “Azzurri”? Obviously the Italian team is strong and combative, which deploys all its champions: Simone Barlaam, Alessia Berra, Federico Bicelli, Francesco Bocciardo, Monica Boggioni, Vincenzo Boni, Antonio Fantin, Giulia Ghiretti, Carlotta Gilli, Riccardo Menciotti, Efrem Morelli, Federico Morlacchi , Xenia Francesca Palazzo, Stefano Raimondi, Alessia Scortechini and Arjola Trimi.
Almost 500 Paralympic swimmers from 33 countries will be present in Lignano, of which 246 will fight to get the pass for the World Championships in London in September 2019 and to get the minimum time for the Tokyo 2020 paralympics.
There will also be 18 competitions in which the current world record holders will be in the water: (Simone Barlaam 50 freestyle S9, Francesco Bocciardo 200 freestyle S5, Antonio Fantin 50 and 100 free style S5, Carlotta Gilli 50 and 100 freestyle, 100 back and 100 dolphin S13, Federico Morlacchi 100 dolphin S9, Arnost Petracek CZE 50 back S4, Antoni Ponce Bertran ESP 100 frog SB5, Alice Tai GBR 50 and 100 freestyle and 100 back S8, Ihar Boki BLR 100 and 400 freestyle, 100 back and 100 S13 dolphin).
The Lignano stage will be presented during a press conference to be held Thursday, May 23rd at 11.30 am in the Orange Room of the tourist village Bella Italia, Lignano Sabbiadoro.
